Diva Starz: The Lost 2000s Robot Dolls
Просмотров 43 тыс.6 месяцев назад
Diva Starz were a peculiar line of robot dolls from the technology-obsessed early 2000s. With their arguably creepy designs, they could talk and interact with you in unique ways. While a nostalgic relic of the past today, there's an interesting story behind how and why the dolls evolved, including controversies, outrage and fights between doll companies. There's also a variety of lost media, in...

The Pet Game Craze of the 2000s

With gaming becoming more casual in the 2000s, especially on Nintendo’s Wii and DS systems, it lead to a lot of obscure games for children. My opinion on fakies (or recasts, as we call them in the BJD community) is that they aren't necessary items for human survival. They are 'luxury' goods that you can live without. So I find the "oh but poor people can take part in the hobby with fakes!" arguments to lack critical thought. I'm poor as hell. I have sold things and worked extra hours at jobs I hated to afford the Dollfie Dreams I own (each worth around $700 each). I only own three, and have bought each of them over a 7 year period. I won't denounce people who buy fakes ofc, like do what you will with your money; but if you get called out or shunned for it, that's kind of the trade off. In BJD circles (especially resin dolls), recasts are so shunned that people will be blacklisted and banned from forums and groups entirely, regardless of whether or not they get rid of their recasts and buy legits. It stains your reputation permenantly. There are definitely questionable ethics there that require disection, but I'm not willing to do that myself since, while I do collect, my dolls are vinyl and near impossible to replicate properly. That, and I don't take part in the BJD community as a whole because I find too many of the people to be vehemently toxic, rude, and snobby about their objective tastes.

China is much ahead technologically, and these dolls, the raw material is made in china I believe, then in Japan, or wherever they paint these dolls, dress them up, create a story around them, put them in a nice box, and sell them for a higher price.....I think uniquely customized one of a kind dolls are different, otherwise they are all factory dolls, coming from japanese factory, or chinese or others.....on Aliexpress at least there are various face templates, all kinds of skin colour,.. the japanese dolls look quite the same to me, beautiful, but same....

It’s been two months so maybe you won’t see it, but I love your videos so much! I’ve started to binge watch all of them. But I am hard of hearing so I put the volume all the way up and the bell transition sounds are a bit jarring. I don’t know anything about video editing but if the volume can come down a lil bit that would be awesome. Sorry for the critique, I just genuinely love your content and the way you speak and will continue to watch your videos regardless

I first heard of Blythe dolls through LPS too! I was a bit skeptical at first but also very quickly became a big fan. It was towards the end of my LPS phase, and I felt a little embarrassed about asking my parents for one (they probably would’ve gotten one for me if I had).

Ok so I watched this video 3 times, one of the viewings I made my boyfriend watch in full so he would understand why I'm about to buy this creepy a** doll😅💖. Also just really love the liminal vibes and the Animal Crossing sounds🥹 I'm obsessed with your style of video!!! I also was debating between an Icy doll and a Takara doll I found at a local vintage toy store for $200😭 but after the video I'm 100% getting an Ali Express, I can actually get the exact color and style I want that way! Also also, I went and hunted down at a vintage mall for your LPS kitty, which is my first and only LPS I'll buy 😅

Around 2003-2005 I was more steeped in Strawberry Shortcake, as in I had coloring books and maybe some figurines, wouldn’t be surprised if I even had a birthday party with a Strawberry Shortcake theme, but I’d never watched the series. Particularly I was into Angel Cake and Honey Pie (kind of surprising their personalities didn’t hold up, but maybe it was good little me never got to see them in action haha). I do love the original design of Strawberry herself (it’s as compelling as the version I grew up with), but the 2000’s era of her world has its unique element of peak nostalgia. I was open to the first reboot in the 2010’s but it felt more pared down for my taste. Anyway, I do appreciate that the 80’s version is getting more attention nowadays, so I can tangentially enjoy something I naturally wasn’t old enough to experience.

OH my God I grew up reading the books, they were my treasures!!! The art was always gorgeous. It was so unique and perfect for the vibe. The stories from what I can recall were quite good. They didn't necessarily seek out to teach a "lesson"; they were just one-shots, basically that detailed one fairy's experience. A common theme to happen I noticed is the main character feeling lost in their identity in some way and venturing to try and seek answers. There was one book called "Queen Clarion's Secret" where three fairies, Beck.. and two others I can't remember (one of them might have been Lily?) follow Queen Clarion who was also sneaking off somewhere. They discover that she not only knew a lot about Pixie Hollow (such as secret tunnels animal fairies built way back when that were abandoned and only remembered and used by the animal fairies) but that she also visited a friend in the form of a bird occasionally over the course of a long duration (can't remember how long). I thought this one was particularly interesting because it's the only story EVER that features Queen Clarion and gives a little bit more into her character, since even in the movie she's a bit of a mysterious figure. The books sometimes also had a MUCH serious vibe. There's one story where Videa almost kills Beck when Beck goes on a cross-sea trip and Videa puts pewter in a pixie dust bag she gives to Beck. It weighed Beck down and she almost ended up drowning in the sea. There was another time a new fast-flying fairy named Wisp was born who sought to challenge Videa in being the fastest fairy. She ended up stealing some of the special pixie dust Videa made from the wings she plucked from Mother Dove, which for once forced her to think about her actions. Then, Videa had entertained the idea of racing a hawk by going to a sort of "dead fairy's land" where hawks were abundant. Wisp took it seriously and tried it out in her journey to prove herself quick, and Videa risked her life to chase after her. After they crashed on the ground, Videa was knocked out then awoke to what seemed like a Wisp-no-more. She once again had to consider the repercussions of her actions before Wisp popped up, thrilled because she had beaten a hawk. I remember the book also described Wisp's expression while racing the hawk going from genuine fear of the situation to glee, and Videa commented on her reckless courage. TL;DR Videa almost got two people killed in the books it's WILD. There are so so so so SO many more stories that I remember being really good. Honorable mentions are the one that was about Scarlett the new art fairy, about Rani who went off to visit mermaids, the one about Beck I briefly mentioned, one about a Scott fairy named Myka, one about Dulcie the baking fairy, and soooo mcuh more. I wish I hadn't gotten rid of all of my books or at LEAST reread them before giving them away. It's cheesy to say, but it was truly a magical series

When I was little.. Winx, Nintendo, Disney Fairies, Barbie and Little Pet Shop (and the games) was the things that helped coped with my bad childhood... I have always loved the books even if I didn't understood the lore (like I didn't know that there's was 2 generations of fairies, I had always thinked that what happened on the books was in a fact like a parallel world 😅 of the movies). My favorite fairies are Rani, Vidia, Tinkerbell, Silvermist and Rosetta ! The only thing that I have are some fairies dolls and all the games because I loved it ! My favorite things was that you can create your own fairy with your own talent (except for the first one where you playing Tinkerbell but it was really fun to customize her !) To be honnest.. I never liked the way how the Peter Pan's movies had potrayed Tinkerbell.. Like I was (and still find it) kinda of sexist (fortunatly the character is better in the sequel of Peter Pan but yeah... I hate this "women jealousy" thing who fight to get their men...). So that's why I have always prefered disney fairies to the peter pan's movies

IMHO the standout for Generation 2 was their version of Cinderella which had Strawberry doing a very unselfish act, lending several good raincoats out to her friends on a rainy day then ending up having to use the last shabby one for herself because it was the only one she had left & they did a costume play version of Cinderella that had 2 very cute songs: If I Glittered ruclips.net/video/Z2CaUDSz2pg/видео.html and Beautiful You ruclips.net/video/jTWm3psU1jc/видео.html

Maybe I'm a bit late, but I had 2 of the original Diva Starz when I was 6-7 (Alexa and Paige). I begged and begged my mom, and she figured that since they could kinda interact with each other, she would buy two of them. I played so much with them! My stepdad's daughters and my friends were so jealous, it was one of the few times I was one of the cool kid 😂 I also have such vivid memories of playing the flash games, I freaking loved them. I think my dolls came with the PC game but I'm not exactly sure, maybe my mom bought it for me later. I had so much fun with it! I drew so many OCs in that exact art style, this is nuts. Thank you for this video!

You know sunset shimmer from equestria girls (2013) does have a redemption arc just like megamind from megamind (2010). 1. Backstory, like how both are exiled from their original home and are now living on earth, for megamind he was born on his home planet that was about to be sucked into a blackhole, and was raised in metrocity prison on earth, for sunset shimmer she escaped from the pony world and now lives on earth. 2. Villain arc, in megamind he started out as a villain in the movie, and wanted to take over metrocity and destroyed metroman, for equestria girls sunset shimmer was the popular mean girl bully of canterlot high and stole pony twilights crown. 3. Storyline arc, during megaminds story, he needs a hero to defeat him so he started to create a hero, and is getting to know Roxanne, for sunset shimmer she used pony twilights crown and becomes demon sunset shimmer and used canterlot high school as a zombified army and the equestria girls used the power of friendship. 4. Conclusion, for megamind he started to become a hero and defeat his created hero turned villain, for sunset shimmer after she accepted the power of friendship she became a good friend to the equestria girls and all of canterlot high.
